Application of portable infrared analysis system in anaerobic composting process

Abstract: In order to make better use of the gas produced by anaerobic treatment, this paper uses a portable infrared analysis system to study the gas production during the anaerobic composting process based on the introduction of simulated anaerobic composting experiments. The results showed that at the beginning of anaerobic composting, the methane yield was only about 7.8%, which was much lower than the carbon dioxide yield of 32.8%; as the reaction progressed, the methane yield was gradually higher than the carbon dioxide yield, and on the 90th day The highest value reached about 42.0% at around; thereafter, the yields of carbon dioxide and methane gradually decreased, but the methane yield was always higher than the carbon dioxide yield.

1 Overview
There are three main methods of garbage disposal currently being promoted: sanitary landfill, composting, and incineration. With the development of the concept of circular economy in the process of municipal solid waste disposal, the composting method has a strong vitality as an important way to reduce, recycle, and harmless municipal solid waste. As aerobic composting process requires a large amount of oxygen, it needs to consume a lot of energy, and anaerobic digestion not only does not need to consume a lot of energy, but also can collect biogas as a clean energy. Therefore, from the perspective of circular economy, it is an ideal treatment method.
Gas production in the process of anaerobic composting is an important indicator. In order to make better use of the gas produced by anaerobic treatment, this study analyzed the gas production of anaerobic composting of domestic garbage using a portable infrared analysis system. In the research and analysis, it was found that in the anaerobic composting gas production of domestic garbage, the methane yield is not higher than the carbon dioxide yield at the beginning, but it is higher than the carbon dioxide yield after a certain period of time as the reaction proceeds. Based on the introduction of simulation tests, this article focuses on the basic characteristics of anaerobic composting methane production.
2 Experimental part
2.1 Experimental materials
The domestic waste comes from the garbage points in the living area of ​​Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, and its basic composition is shown in Table 1.

2.2 Experimental device
The simulation experiment device is cylindrical, with a diameter of 600mm and a height of 1200mm. It is covered with thermal insulation cotton for thermal insulation. The bottom of the leachate collection port; the top two open
One port is connected to a vacuum pump for vacuuming, and the other is used to measure the gas production rate; the side wall is provided with two openings on the left and right, one is inserted with a thermometer to measure the temperature, and the other is used for sampling. The reaction device is shown in Figure 1.

2.3 Experimental instruments
The main instrument used in this experiment is the 9000D portable 4-component infrared analysis system produced by Beijing Huayun Analytical Instrument Research Institute.
The 9000D portable 4-component infrared analysis system is specially designed for measuring CO, CO2, CH4 and O2 produced in landfills. Sub-sampling system and host. During the measurement, the sampling probe is extended from the top of the anaerobic composting device to more than half of the interior, and the gas to be measured is drawn into the sampler by the suction pump in the sampler. The four three and a half LCD liquid crystal displays directly display the concentration value, with fast response speed, accurate value and long-term continuous work. In the host, CO, CO2, and CH4 use the non-dispersive infrared method, and O2 uses the electrochemical method. Among them, the optical components of CO use gas filtering related technologies. The gas analysis flow chart of this system is shown in Figure 2. The gas analysis system solves the shortcomings of slow data acquisition, easy transmission error and secondary pollution in the past, and is an online monitoring system with high accuracy and reliable performance.
2.4 Experimental method
First, manually sort the collected domestic garbage, and remove the non-degradable substances such as plastic, glass, metal, etc .; then use the quartile method to sample and load 500kg of garbage into the anaerobic composting device; due to the determination of the moisture content of the mixed garbage It is 30%, so after artificially adding water to 45% moisture content, cover and seal; during the test, the yield of methane and carbon dioxide during the composting process is measured by infrared analysis system.
3 Experimental results and analysis
When the experimental waste was loaded into the anaerobic composting device, it was initially in an aerobic environment. With the consumption of molecular oxygen, SO42- and NO3- and manual vacuuming, the device began to enter the anaerobic state necessary for methanogenic bacteria growth Methane and carbon dioxide. On the 15th day, the infrared analysis system was used to measure the methane and carbon dioxide yield in the device, and every 15 thereafter, the data is shown in Table 2.
