Ordinary cast PP penetrates the BOPP market

With the improvement of polypropylene (PP) resin performance and the development of film forming equipment and processing technology, the market competitiveness of ordinary cast polypropylene (CPP) is further enhanced. It is predicted that its application field will further infiltrate into the BOPP market. On the one hand, CPP has a high heat seal strength and a low production cost. In recent years, its productivity has increased by an average of 25%. Moreover, CPP improves performance through co-extrusion, tear resistance and impact strength are enhanced, and with the original high transparency, CPP is easier to control morphology than BOPP, with better dimensional stability and flatness. Therefore, CPP can replace BOPP in certain market areas such as DVD and packaging of audio and video boxes, bread and cake packaging, anti-fog film for fruits and vegetables, and flower packaging. Moreover, most of the BOPP films produced in China use general-grade raw materials, which greatly limits the properties of the films, thereby weakening their competitive advantages over ordinary cast films.
