1 The role and status of libraries in colleges and universities

2 Analysis of the current situation of university library automation construction
2.1 Status
The university library system has always been at the forefront of national library automation construction. 2.2.1 Lack of unified management and overall planning

Because the large-scale centralized online processing mode management system that domestic libraries expect has not yet been developed, each library is busy building its own bibliographic database and document library to serve the school and the library itself. Around this way of working, the local databases established by each library generally have a single database (mainly bibliography and secondary literature information), the standardization degree is not high, the scale is small, the versatility is poor, the development is uneven, and the business Problems such as low service level and multiple repetitions. The isolation and backwardness of the resource database construction have directly caused the high cost of library information network construction, short elimination cycle, low overall system level, and can not keep up with the development status of technology.
2.2.3 The library software system is inconsistent, incompatible with each other, and the quality is not high
Most university libraries use domestic software. The domestic software is developed without network conditions, unified standards, and unified planning. Therefore, the system modes are inconsistent. The principle of its preparation, the language support system and the network environment are different, and each library chooses its own system, resulting in incompatibility between the systems and data resources cannot be shared. On the other hand, in terms of system structure, most of the centralized management systems adopting host processing mode, the user interface is still mainly character interface, and the system platform lacks openness and interconnectivity. Acquiring and using literature information resources is still in the experimental stage.
2.2.4 Traditional management concepts can not keep up with the development of modern libraries
The construction of university library automation is only focused on improving the efficiency of the library's internal business work and not focusing on improving the literature retrieval. On the other hand, the relationship between automation and networking is unclear. It is not recognized that automation is the basis of networking, and that networking is an inevitable relationship between the development of automation. 2.3 Solution

2.3.1 The replacement of the automation system should be a top priority
Facing the rapid development of the information age, the increasingly perfect IT technology, the original library automation management system has fallen behind, and it is urgent to update the automation system: As the library automation integration system is a more complex system, it is a A large project that is time-consuming and labor-intensive. Far from being a museum, even a school can complete in 1-2 years. Therefore, libraries in western universities, especially those with insufficient funds and weak technical power, should make full use of the existing and advanced research results in the library industry and choose to purchase mature library automation software. At present, domestic and foreign library management software are upgraded to different degrees to replace some of the new generation systems in China that are researched and developed from a high starting point. All kinds of libraries should review the situation and adjust and select automatic management systems with more superior functions in a timely manner. 2.3.2 Change ideas, actively seek support from leaders at all levels, and improve library automation environment
Libraries should seize various evaluation opportunities that are implicated in the library, and strive for the support of school leaders. 3 The development of university library automation
