DB: This time BeanQ faced fierce competition and finally won the Red Dot Award for Best Design. What do you think is the advantage that will finally make you stand out?

FY: Consumer robots are a new category, different from other products, which has led us to explore and imagine the concept of “vitality” in the design field. We have dismantled the word “robot”, “machine” represents the functional level of appeal, and “person” reflects the perception and communication of life. We hope to use the means of design to eliminate the boundaries between the two, so that the product has a "life force" that is easy to detect and perceive.

To this end, the designer did not enter the scrutiny of the product itself at the beginning, but borrowed the way of animation design, and put more energy on the character, posture, habits of the product character, and the whole story background. And the establishment and polishing of the worldview. We believe that thanks to this unique design concept and product concept, users and the ordinary people who first saw BeanQ can understand and appreciate BeanQ through specific graphics, colors and dynamics. The design concept of “Life” runs through the product.

DB: In the actual design process, what practical problems have this concept encountered?

FY: In addition to the general FAQ, in the new design process, the challenges are mainly derived from the following two aspects. First of all, how to use the means of design to effectively convey the "life" of products is the biggest challenge. We spent a lot of time in the early stages of the project to study animation-related expertise. Because in the animation, the emotions and characters of the characters are conveyed through the posture, the momentum and the expression.

The same is true for robot design. When we designed BeanQ's waist rotation axis, we tried to break through with a 5° tilting shaft, which brought a huge visual improvement. Let BeanQ have a forward-looking momentum when it is static, visually more friendly and friendly. And when he started to spin, the dynamics were more flexible and rich, and he took off a savvy little fat man.

In addition, we have multiple interactive touch areas on the BeanQ's head and body. Children can interact with the robot by touching, slamming, holding, etc., and BeanQ will also make corresponding dynamic and emotional feedback. Through a large number of observations and parental feedback, the way to charge the product with the USB cable as an interface is a potential safety hazard for the child's use. Based on this consideration, we designed a wireless charging board for BeanQ.

We did not designally use it as a functional accessory to complete it, but to continue our design philosophy, try to give it a personification experience, and define him as the "shadow" of BeanQ. In detail, the part of the charging board that is in contact with the main unit adopts a strong guiding design. This is called “depreciation” in engineering design, so that children do not need to pay too much attention and do not need any experience and common sense. , you can complete the charging operation directly and safely.

DB: Compared to other works, we noticed that the image of BeanQ is more specific and intuitive. Why do you think of using beans as a prototype?

FY: The world of children should be colorful! Once upon a time, black and white and gray three colors became the standard of the robot, and the design of the routine made the products that should be fun to be boring. We hope to explore the deeper meaning of products, not for the sake of difference, but to restore the appearance of children's robots through our own understanding. We try to find a match between children's groups and product design with the key to “living power”.

Children are in the nascent stage of the entire life course, which makes us directly think of the seeds of plants. BeanQ takes the seed as the prototype and represents the meaning of growth, vitality, hope and so on. It can convey the beautiful meaning, strengthen the audience attribute of the product and increase the identity of the product.

FY: The entire pudding team adheres to the principles of professionalism, ease of use and safety. BeanQ is full of intimacy and vitality with a vibrant color scheme and a sleek design language. With the choice of materials and quality control, the interaction between children and BeanQ is more convenient and safe. We have organized a large team of AI teams and education experts to create a situational English teaching course with a teaching and research level.
