What is a snow line?

In the summer of the eyes, the residents of Tianshan and Qilian Mountains can clearly see a black and white boundary crossing the mountainside. Above the line is the flashing world of ice and snow. This line is called snow line. To be precise, the snow line refers to a certain altitude; at this altitude, the snow that falls every year just melts in the year.

The location of the snow line in one place is not fixed. Seasonal changes can cause the snow line to rise and fall. This temporary phenomenon is called the seasonal snow line. Only in the summer, the snow line is relatively stable and returns to a relatively constant height every year. For this reason, the determination of the snow line height was carried out in the hottest summer months.

As far as the world is concerned, the snow line is reduced from the equator to the poles. The height of the snow line on the north slope of Mount Everest is about 6,000 meters. In the north and south poles, the snow line is lowered to the sea level. The snow line is an important symbol of glaciology, which controls the development and distribution of glaciers. Only the snow lines where the height of the mountain exceeds the area will have surplus snow accumulated every year. It will only become a region where permanent snow and glaciers develop.
