Recently, Taiwan’s “Industrial Research Institute Chemical Institute†announced the successful development of the technology for the reutilization of optical discs, which has solved the problems that in the past, optical discs could not be recycled and reused, and only incineration can be used.
The general optical disc is made of polycarbonate. The new technology of the Institute of Chemical Industry is to crush the waste optical disc and mix it with ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene polymer), PBT/PET, glass fiber, etc. The "plastic alloy" and composite materials are made to increase the mechanical properties of the materials and achieve the grade of engineering plastics. They are mainly used for the production of casings for mobile phones and notebook computers, which greatly increase the economic value of discs discarded.
About 7.8 billion CD-R discs are used each year in the world, of which more than 80% are manufactured in Taiwan. It is reported that this discarded polycarbonate polycarbonate strength enhancement technology has been patented in the United States and China, and will be promoted.
