17-year-old maker creates a full DIY-style SLS process 3D printing device

Vulca Man, a 17-year-old founder, recently announced his DIY Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printer project. If you are interested in this, you can go to Wevolver to find this rather complicated design.

He talked about his project: "I have always wanted an SLS printer since I heard it, but they are very expensive and only suitable for industrial applications. So I decided to make my own commercial SLS printer."

The young creator said that he made everything himself, and he encouraged other creators to create their own designs. The maker culture also provides video allows you to see the process after the completion of SLS 3D printing machine manufacturing gears.

Do you want to build one yourself? Vulca Man introduced some technical specifications for this DIY SLS 3D printer. These include: 1W 445nm laser diode, 8 x 8 x 8 cm build volume, 36 x 54 x 60 cm external dimensions, CORE-XY motion, test speed 60 mm/sec, maximum speed 300 mm/sec.

To build the entire printer from scratch, Vulca Man estimates that the cost is about 400 euros, which is roughly cheaper than the typical industrial SLS 3D printer on the market.

Regarding the 17 steps in the build process, Vulca Man explained every step that needs attention so that others can assemble their own 3D printer. You can find this production tutorial on the Wevolver website.

The results seem to be very impressive. In the picture below you can see the first test print made by DIY's 3D printer. Vulca Man spent an hour printing a simple gear shape with black powder material at a print speed of 60 mm/sec and a part size of 3 x 3 x 0.5 cm.
